7th June National Military Working Dog Day Parade

7th June 2020: National Military Working Dog Day. The day is celebrated with a Parade at the National Military & Service Working Dog Monument, situated at the RSPCA Animal Care Campus, Wacol in Queensland. RAAF & Army Military Dogs along with other Service Dogs attend this ceremony. Military Dog Units throughout Australia conduct their own recognition ceremonies.

The 7th June is the anniversary of the death of Sapper Darren Smith & Explosive Detection Dog Herbie on this day in 2010 in Afghanistan. Sapper Jacob Moerland was also KIA in this action. Sadly Darren was the first dog handler KIA (Killed In Action) while working a Military Dog within the ADF.
